GEM – GeV Electron Microtron (design report 1982)

The GEM design report describes a novel six-sided CW microtron for accelerating electrons to 4 GeV. This accelerator design was proposed by Argonne as a user facility for the national nuclear physics research community. In 1983, DOE advisory groups recommended instead the construction of a national user facility in Virginia based on the pulsed linear accelerator plus stretcher ring design proposed by SURA.
